I created this piece to depict Cordyceps, which is famous as a traditional Chinese medicine said to grant immortality. Although it’s a fungus that grows from the final-instar larvae of cicadas, I’ve used the shed exoskeletons in this piece. It’s a fungus that’s a little scary—even to those who eat it.
