I reflect on what “originality” really is. If we define originality as something pure and uninfluenced by anything else, then it does not exist. Our bodies, our thoughts, and our language—all of it is borrowed from those who came before us. We think using what we’ve borrowed and continue to pass on what we’ve borrowed. As long as we are human beings living in society, this race to borrow will go on without end.
