My mother loved the painter Renoir, and she often shared with me his words: “There are many unpleasant things in life. That’s why I don’t paint dark pictures.”
Perhaps influenced by my mother, I found myself—without even realizing it—painting while thinking about how I could create works that would bring even a little joy to the viewer.
For this exhibition as well, I worked on the pieces while having fun myself, adding and revising details as I went, trying this and that to ensure the designs would bring joy to those who see them.
Although you’ll spot a few figures in the painting that clearly aren’t “people” no matter how you look at them, I’ve poured my hope into this exhibition—that the “Tsukuru Hito-tachi” Expo will be an event everyone can enjoy.
Encounters—whether with people or artworks—are once-in-a-lifetime moments.
I hope this will be a wonderful market where both the “Tsukuru Hito-tachi” and the “Tsudou Hito-tachi” can have a great time.
