Life is lovely.

Created in 2023 as my university graduation project, this P150-sized work uses traditional Japanese art materials and centers on the themes of “night” and “a young girl.” While living alone during the COVID-19 pandemic, I was sustained by late-night phone calls with friends and family—an experience that profoundly changed my perception of the night. There are quiet moments spent brooding alone, and there are times when we all relax and share our dreams together. I came to feel that the night, which arrives with a different expression every day, possesses a special quality that cannot be defined by a single concept. Furthermore, ever since I was a child, I have been drawn to the figure of the “girl”—a being that embodies both strength and delicacy, and whose appearance takes on a sense of transience as she grows. Inspired by these feelings, I painted a scene of girls sharing their dreams together at night.
