I make colorful accessories using kogin embroidery.
Kogin embroidery is a traditional sashiko technique passed down in the Tsugaru region of Aomori Prefecture. I first encountered Kogin embroidery while traveling. Learning that it is a traditional craft passed down since the Edo period—born from the wisdom and ingenuity of people in those days and preserved to this day—I found myself increasingly captivated by it the more I learned.
The pattern is created by carefully stitching the needle into the linen fabric, one stitch at a time. Packing traditional, vintage-style patterns onto a single piece of fabric under the theme “Adding Color to Daily Life,” I create items such as brooches, coasters, and hair accessories. I hope you’ll enjoy holding the items made with plant-dyed embroidery thread and experiencing the unique colors and warmth that only plant dyes can offer.
