I created a base by combining silver-colored Yuzen washi with black Ten-gu-cho paper (ultra-thin washi), so that the silver sparkles through the black when light reflects off it.
Using the textured butterfly base, we created vibrant, gradient-colored butterflies—without any coloring—solely through technique, using over 10 different colors of Tenugucho paper.
Furthermore, to convey the sense of flight, I combined various plain white washi papers with square bases of differing thicknesses and sizes, arranging them in a flowing pattern to create a sense of floating.
A varnish was applied to the butterflies to preserve their colors.
The vibrant colors represent a rainbow, and the butterflies are depicted as messengers from the rainbow, appearing to fly into the darkness of the night.
