I believe the word “KAKUKAKU” means “angular” or “edgy,” but I want to depict a world that, even though it’s angular, is warm and soft—and at times, dazzling. This drawing style surely stems from playing with LEGO blocks with my younger brother when I was a child. I love playing peacefully in nature—by the sea, in the forest, and by the river—and I paint inspired by the light I find there. With the theme “Escape to Another World,” I create my work hoping that it might serve as a place of respite for anyone who encounters it; nothing would make me happier.
