We make cat toys out of natural materials (=^・^=)/ To make your time with your cat even more fun, we’re diligently crafting durable and safe cat toys If you’re worried that cat toys are “easily broken,” “get boring quickly,” or “your cat won’t play with them,” Yamaneko Honpo might be able to help. Cat toys designed with your cats’ best interests in mind— What makes them different from ordinary ones? Why not come see, touch, and try them out for yourself? We sincerely look forward to welcoming cat lovers to our booth (=^・^=)/ What we keep in mind when working with natural materials: “We use what nature has given us with care, and return it to nature with gratitude.” Even with natural materials, depending on the processing methods and chemicals used, they can place a significant burden on the environment At Yamaneko Honpo, we use specially processed “Gibier leather” that is treated with minimal environmental impact right from the tanning stage. We do not use trivalent chromium, formalin, or chemical dyes—substances commonly found in standard leather—at all. In addition, the hinoki wood used for the rods is sourced domestically, primarily from thinned timber. Since many adhesives used to bond wood and leather contain formalin or organic solvents, we use animal glue for any parts that require bonding The cat toys made by Yamaneko Honpo will biodegrade and return to the soil if buried. In our pursuit of safety for cats, we ended up creating cat toys that return to the soil. Our cats have taught us that when we strive to create products that are gentle on living creatures, we also end up creating products that are gentle on the environment. 《Why We Use Game Leather》 When making cat toys, the tear-resistance of deer leather and the toughness of wild boar leather made them extremely appealing materials. However, they are very expensive, and since these animals are not raised on farms, the supply is unstable. These materials presented significant hurdles for use in our products. However, while searching for materials, I had the opportunity to learn about deer and wild boars that are captured as pests. To protect agriculture and forestry, more than 600,000 deer and wild boars are captured annually, but the vast majority are discarded without being put to any use. While the use of their meat has increased somewhat, the reality is that nearly 100% of their hides are currently discarded. It is said that, when traced to their root causes, the damage caused by deer and wild boars is, to no small extent, due to environmental changes resulting from human economic activities. I was quite shocked to learn that these animals are captured to protect economic activities, only to be buried in the mountains without being utilized. At one point, I considered giving up on using them, but I realized that turning a blind eye to such problems won’t change anything. I understand that since this is an environmental issue intertwined with economic activity, it cannot be easily resolved. Still, if more people become aware of it, things might start to change—even if only little by little. I thought that if I could help spread the word by making enjoyable choices in my daily life, it would be worth the effort—and that’s why I began working with these materials. Deer leather—so soft and pleasant to the touch that it’s sometimes called “leather cashmere.” Boar leather—which conveys a sense of toughness the moment you touch it. These leathers have completely different personalities—please come see and feel them for yourself. We look forward to welcoming you.
