Yamazaki Shoten was founded in 1976 as a wholesaler of materials for fusuma sliding doors and washi paper. For over 30 years, we have been engaged in the wholesale distribution of washi paper to the mounting and framing industry. With the start of the Heisei era, concerned about a shortage of successors in the industry, we took it upon ourselves to begin producing karagami paper. We studied under karakami masters to learn the craft and are now proposing innovative techniques, new patterns, and applications never seen before. In recent years, we have been re-examining “Karaki” as a material and working to introduce it to people in other industries. We hold in-house exhibitions and sales of handmade accessories made with Karaki, and we share information about Karaki and its patterns on social media. Moving forward, we hope to continue conveying the charm of “Karaki” to an even wider audience through new products and participation in events!
