Yokai Artist/Designer ●Yokai × Contemporary Culture● We develop merchandise featuring illustrations of 100 different yokai combined with various modern elements, such as food and sports. ●What Is “Hyakka Yako”?● The shop name “Hyakka Yako” was chosen in reference to the term “Hyakki Yako,” which means “a procession of 100 yokai roaming at midnight,” to convey the idea that the shop offers a wide variety of products. Manga artist Shigeru Mizuki, famous for *GeGeGe no Kitaro*, once said, “Yokai are a legacy left by our ancestors, so we should respect their traditional forms and pass them on to future generations.” For this reason, the yokai in Hyakka Yako are not original creations; their appearances are all based on forms preserved in folklore. By combining these with food and entertainment, we aim to make people feel that yokai are not just scary, but also somewhat comical and approachable—as if they were actually living in the modern world.
