繭みや工房
Based in Akita City, I create original papier-mâché works. My cocoons and dolls are original papier-mâché pieces made by layering washi paper, shaping them with clay, and painting them. Based on the folklore of the Tohoku region and other parts of Japan, the designs blend “cute” and “a little scary.” Familiar lucky charms such as “Daruma,” “Maneki-neko,” and “Fukusuke.” Dolls inspired by “roots,” such as “Namahage,” “Dosojin,” and “Tohoku festivals.” Dolls modeled after “folk beliefs,” such as “Inari-sama,” “Yatagarasu,” and “the Seven Lucky Gods.” And dolls featuring motifs like the changing seasons, adorable plants and animals, and fairies. No two are alike; each is a one-of-a-kind piece. We hope these dolls will be the kind of presence that quietly brings a little good luck to a corner of your room. That is the vision Mayumiya Workshop strives for in creating these dolls.
