Ryubi
(English profile below) 💫 I bring you art that is both mysterious and nostalgic, designed to awaken the source of happiness that lies dormant in your heart 💫 I’m Ryubi, a mixed-media artist. Thanks to a connection that dates back to my grandparents’ generation, I was given my name by the chief priest of Izumo Taisha, which sparked my interest in art related to the gods and Buddhas. Throughout my life—including my journey to overcome a serious illness—I’ve been blessed with mysterious experiences of happiness, and I’ve cherished the dream that “someday, I’ll be able to share this happiness with many people through my art…” I’ve carefully nurtured this dream. In 2007, I met Ryujin-san (a dragon fairy), whom I named Anan and who is also my alter ego, and my life took a dramatic turn for the better. Then, in 2023, I took my first step toward delivering happiness through art. I would be deeply moved if I could share this happiness with all of you from now on. ♥ My Background ♥ ・Began drawing Buddhist statues and nature scenes with my grandmother, a painter, at age 5, developing a love for art ・After a childhood marked by repeated hospitalizations, my family and I moved to Australia when I was in the 4th grade to recover through contact with nature ・After overcoming a serious illness, I moved to the U.S. with my family in the 1st year of junior high to prepare for college entrance exams ・Graduated from an Ivy League college in the U.S. with a degree in Education Completed the Neuropsychology and Mental Health Care program at Harvard Graduate School ・Trained in planning and management for three years at Disney World (Florida) ・Inspired by my mother, an actress and designer, and my father, an entrepreneur, I have been based overseas (in the UK, the U.S., and Australia) for over 30 years Currently active as a counselor, writer, and artist ・Handled 38,000 cases as a psychological and educational counselor (as of 2025) ♥ My Dream ♥ “Spreading Happiness (Not just to people, but to animals too!)” I deliver energy and good fortune to everyone through my work → Using the proceeds to help animals and nature thrive → Increasing the number of animal families—even by just one—and raising them happily ♦ Awards ♦ ・2026: Selected for the 12th kahogosoap project product design competition Lucky Soap (Sold out online; in-store stock available) ・2026 Kyoto Isetan “Time to Meet Dogs, Cats, and Other Animals” https://www.eggnworks.jp/profile_tsukuru_202601/8163/ ・2025 Tsukuru Hitotachi Expo: Kyoto Takashimaya Main Visual ・2025 [9th] Art Notebook Cover Design: “universum (Universe)” ・2024 Playlist of Smiles (ryubiart Special Jury Award) https://tombow-funart.com/topics/report/17323/ ・Disney World (U.S.) Management Planning Project: Excellence Award ・Boston Student Art Solo Exhibition (Grand Prize) ● About My Ongoing Art Series ● ❶ Ryubi’s Meditation Art I always perform my own unique meditation before creating a piece. I then transform the stories and messages that emerge as visual images during that meditation into finished works. While creating, I enter a state of mind akin to that of an “innocent 3-year-old.” Therefore, I would be delighted if viewers could also shed their heavy memories and view my work with the same innocent perspective as a 3-year-old. ❷ “Drawn by the Dragon God” Anan Dragon & Ryubi Collaboration Art In 2007, through a mysterious twist of fate, a dragon fairy appeared before me (see the image on my Instagram). I named that fairy Anan. (If you think, “Fairies? That’s ridiculous,” please just skip this part. lol) She looks like a mysterious little girl, but she’s a divine being who always comes to my rescue in critical moments. In 2024 (the Year of the Dragon), I received a message from Anan. “I want to be an artist too, so help me!” she said… I couldn’t possibly refuse a request from such a precious part of myself, so I replied, “OK!” And that’s how my collaboration with Anan began. Anan sends me designs through mental imagery, and I bring them to life as artworks—but those designs are so amazing it’s almost frustrating. And it’s not just the designs—Anan takes the lead on everything, including pricing, art supplies, and the number of prints sold. When it comes to our collaborative works, I act as the dragon’s interpreter, simply letting my brush flow mindfully, exactly as Anan instructs. ★Original Art & Print Sales★ https://www.creema.jp/c/ryubi_heArtsy_Artsy We also accept commissions for Instagram-exclusive pieces and custom works.
