“Decorative Composition in Two-Dimensional Painting” is one of my themes in both my artistic practice and research; through decorative rendering, I emphasize the essence of painting and the nature of the two-dimensional plane. While the outline of the goldfish is rendered realistically, the body is painted using a bleeding technique, and the lace sections are colored in a way that emphasizes the rough texture of the mineral pigments. In this way, I have collaged multiple rendering methods that emphasize two-dimensionality onto the same canvas. By extracting patterns from motifs—such as the goldfish’s scales transforming into lace—I create a contradictory “glitch” between realism and two-dimensionality. I sought to explore the nature of beauty born from contradictions that exist solely on the pictorial plane.
