“Decorative Composition in Two-Dimensional Painting” is one of my creative and research themes; through decorative depictions, I emphasize the essence of painting and the nature of the two-dimensional plane. While the outline of the goldfish is rendered realistically, the body is colored using a bleeding technique, and the lace sections are painted in a way that emphasizes the rough texture of the mineral pigments. In this way, I collage-like combine multiple representational methods that emphasize two-dimensionality within the same composition. By extracting patterns from motifs—such as the goldfish’s scales transforming into lace—I create a contradictory “glitch” between realism and two-dimensionality. I sought to explore the nature of beauty born from contradictions that exist solely within the plane of the painting.
