Enso

I create this series primarily for live painting and drawing performances at events such as markets and art festivals. I begin by leaving a circular blank space in the center. Then, using a pen,
I fill in the space with detailed line work, drawing while visualizing a “circle of enlightenment.” Since the detailed drawing cannot be completed within the allotted time, the performance is based on the concept of a “circle of enlightenment” drawn in a single continuous stroke. The portion completed during that event is considered the finished work for that session, and by continuing to draw the circle at the next event, the work exists in a state of being both unfinished yet complete, and complete yet unfinished. This rationale serves to establish the project as a valid art performance.
