The annex of the Kyoto Museum of Culture, where the event is being held, was completed in 1906 (Meiji 39) as the Kyoto Branch of the Bank of Japan. It was designed by Kingo Tatsuno, famous for his “red-brick architecture,” such as Tokyo Station.
It was subsequently designated an Important Cultural Property in 1969 and transferred from the Bank of Japan to Kyoto Prefecture in 1986.
Since the event is being held at the Kyoto Museum of Culture, which houses such a valuable cultural asset, we expressed the potential for new innovation and the joy of art at the very locations where “Kyoto’s famous sights,” “Kyoto’s shrines and temples,” “Kyoto’s culture,” and “the city with the highest concentration of universities in Japan”
We expressed the potential for new innovation and the joy of art at this very site, where these themes are etched into the building’s history.
We also paid special attention to the traditional “colors” of Japan, using “Japanese colors” to depict each individual brick.

We depicted “Kyoto Engraved in Bricks,” “The People Expo Created with Pictograms,” and “The Hollow in the Center is the Main Entrance to the Kyoto Cultural Museum Annex.”
We also believed that by incorporating the event details (dates, times, location, etc.) into the design, we could create a display that would captivate everyone.
