The name doesn’t come from its size, but rather from the “Blue Hawk” (Aotaka), which has bluish-gray plumage.
Its belly is white with thin horizontal stripes all over, and I tried to capture that image in this piece.
The driftwood was of such high quality that it hardly cracked at all during carving, which was a huge help.
Thanks to that, I was able to capture every detail down to the tips of its powerful, large toes.
