Illustration of the Foreign God Medjed
Medjed, a god of ancient Egypt. It’s possible he actually visited Japan incognito during the Edo period. Perhaps due to his long journey, his attire looks a bit worn. Tonight, I hope he’ll take a nice bath at an inn and soothe his travel-weary body while savoring some delicious fish. And then, no doubt, he’ll set off once again on his journey to explore foreign lands. Incidentally, “Meijudo” is likely a name that Edo-period people forced onto the name of a foreign god using kanji.
