SHIMASATOMI
Influenced by my grandfather, who loved nature, I developed an interest in plants and animals, and since I loved drawing, I spent my childhood drawing my favorite animals, such as horses and deer. I also became interested in Japanese culture through Japanese dance, which I studied under my mother. When I entered college, I moved to Kyoto to study Japanese painting and classical painting. Afterward, I entered the workforce, but because I had been away from artistic creation for so long, I found I could no longer paint the way I wanted to. A trip around France became a turning point, helping me break out of that creative slump. I made up my mind and began my career as an artist. My work is characterized by the line-drawing techniques I acquired while studying painting, as well as detailed depictions of plants, animals, and birds.
