I decorated this piece with ventangle patterns featuring the crane, a traditional symbol of good fortune. As the saying goes, “The crane envies the tortoise,” this crane—despite its own long life—feels jealous of the tortoise, which lives for ten thousand years. It also serves as a cautionary reminder that greed is never-ending. I designed this crane gazing upward not only as a symbol of good luck for the owner but also to convey the message that one should always possess the ambition—or “greed”—to strive for improvement.
