This work, part of the “GOAT TAROT” series, depicts the symbol of “Death.”
In the Tarot, “Death” does not signify an end, but rather “change,” “rebirth,” and “shedding of the old.”
What is depicted here is that “moment of transformation.”
Emerging from the black door is a goat-like figure wielding a scythe.
Yet its face has a certain childlike innocence, evoking not fear but a “quiet resolve.”
At the bottom of the stairs, hands are still reaching out, trying to cling to something.
The yellow pillar and circle of light floating on the water’s surface represent layers of time and consciousness stretching from the past to the future.
The bird in the upper left reappears as a “guide of the soul.”
Following the previous work, *the leap*, it is depicted as a being that witnesses the journey.
What this card conveys is that “death” does not equal “the end.”
Rather, it is a sign of a new door opening through letting go.
