This piece conveys the image of a mother protecting her unborn child. The motif of hands frequently appears in my work. Hands bear the marks of a person’s life more vividly than their face does. I painted this piece with care to bring out that warm, gentle atmosphere as much as possible, while being careful not to overdo it and make it too realistic. I chose the surrounding branches and plants to make the mother’s hands appear even gentler.
